Marriage, new baby names

Kevin, you need to locate the government building and the department that people go to get marriage licenses. Each government entity has different rules. Also, the department that records new births should be in the same area. You need to ask if they are public records and if the answer is yes, just tell them you want to look a them. You will need to take 3 x 5 cards and then write all the info down one at a time for each one. There is not shortcuts to quality prospecting. The reason you were hired to sell insurance by the company is to prospect, find names and write business for the company. If it was easy to do, the company would not need you.

Where to do to get the names

Hi Ted,

I am in Toronto, Ontario, in Canada. I can't seem to find the list of names. you mention that in the morning and afternoon after signups you go and get the list of names. Where do you actually go?

Newlyweds and marriage license names

Hi Tommy;

It depends how you want to approach them. I personally drove to the address shown on the marriage license and knocked on the door. When i started doing this, I done it daily. In fact I got the names in the morning from the prior day afternoon signups and came back after lunch for the morning names. In my case, there were 2 other agents working that same market and first one in front of the prospect usually got a sale. I use to sell them what I called a starter plan. In fact many times I ended selling the parents a plan also once I introduced myself telling them what I do, which was specializing in working with newly married couples. In a number of cases he parents even started a plan for the newly weds. Selling is using imagination and developing strong work habits. I developed a lot of good clients this way and grew with them over the years, adding many different insurance policies such as a mortgage policy, baby policies, etc.

Of course, just like any other prospecting format, you get a cold name and then you have to do the homework of locating the phone number, via phone book and locate address. If it was easy everyone would be doing it.
