E-mail appointments - Linked in, Social Media
Obviously if a person does not provide a phone number ad in many cases many of the social medias do not provide phone numbers, that makes it hard to contact any potential prospects.
I have always developed my prospects by using referrals. It is simple, easy and highly profitable. See this article

Maybe some one else can ring in on how they use e-mails to get appointments. However, I think a person can spend a lot of energy and time on this.
I guess, what I would try and do is locate the persons mailing address, create a list each week and use a personalized direct mail program of some kind, with a return post card.

E-mailing product info. Not a good idea
Every thing has an exception. However in my opinion you should never send information out if your in the process of a sale. In most cases that is just a customer objection and a waste of time.
Also, what does the prospect know about what your selling. I would always come back with, something like "I could do that Mr prospect, but it will be much better if I stop by for a few minutes and explain it to you because that is what I specialize in" Or use something to that effect.
You should read the article on this website referring to using the word idea.
